Orient Stars: A Carpet Collection (London & Stuttgart 1993) presents the private collection of Heinrich and Waltraut Kirchheim, one of the most significant collections of historic carpets and kilims assembled in the late 20th century. The collection spans several centuries, from 12th-century Turkish carpets to 19th-century Caucasian and Anatolian rugs and kilims.
The world's leading experts discuss 219 of the carpets in this collection, which have become benchmarks in terms of rarity, connoisseurship and research. Among them are carpets previously known only from Old Master paintings, published here for the first time. Across its pages, the book provides an extensive study, combining scientific analysis with high-quality fine art printing to present each piece in remarkable detail.
About the Author
Henrich Kirchheim and his wife, Waltraut Kirchheim, amassed The Orient Stars Collection between 1985 and 2005. Their collection has become one of the most significant private collections of early Anatolian, Caucasian and Turkmen rugs in the world.
