Kaitag: Daghestani Silk Embroidery an Italian Collection presents a private collection of Kaitag embroideries assembled by the textile dealer Ziya Bozoğlu. These rare textiles come from the Kaitag district of southeast Dagestan, in the Caucasus, and were made using laid and couched silk floss, combining motifs drawn from classical Safavid Persian art, which were stitched onto a plain cotton ground.
Accompanying these textiles is an introductory essay by Robert Chenciner and David Hunt, leading authorities on Kaitag textiles, placing these striking embroideries in their cultural and historical context.
About the Author
Ziya Bozoğlu is an antique textile and carpet dealer specialising in the woven arts of Anatolia, the Caucasus and Central Asia. With over forty years’ experience in the trade, he began his career in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar before establishing a gallery in Perugia in 1990. Over the course of his career, he has assembled important personal collections of Kaitag embroideries, Anatolian kilims, zili and cicim.
