About the Author
Hans König was a specialist in Chinese carpets and Asian textiles, with a particular focus on the history, symbolism and craftsmanship of classical Chinese weaving. He began collecting carpets from China and Chinese Turkestan in the early 1960s while living in Cologne, and by the end of the decade was publishing scholarship on the subject. Alongside his career as a collector and scholar, König served as Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris and later became the first president of TEFAF (The European Fine Art Foundation). A longstanding supporter of HALI Magazine, he made an important contribution to the study and appreciation of historic carpets and textiles.
