Glanz der Himmelssöhne: Kaiserliche Teppiche aus China 1400–1750 was published to accompany the landmark exhibition of the same name at the Museum of East Asian Art, Cologne, in 2005. The book studies 68 classical Chinese carpets from various carpet weaving regions of China and several individual collections, including the Hans König Collection. Probably fewer than six hundred of these carpets from the classical period survive today, their designs and vibrant colours woven to fit the halls of great palaces in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Through exploring their designs, craftsmanship and historical significance, this publication presents how these carpets remain a testament to the Chinese imperial courts wealth and power.

About the Author
Hans König was among the most important collectors of classical Chinese carpets. Together with his wife Marion, he assembled a remarkable collection of fine and decorative arts, including Islamic and Asian works and Oriental carpets. The Hans König Collection of Classical Chinese Carpets was sold at Christie’s, London, in 2025: an extremely rare group of carpets spanning 200 years, from the late 16th-century Ming dynasty to the late 18th-century Qing dynasty.
