About the Author
Thomas Cole is a specialist in Central Asian textiles, with a particular focus on tribal rugs, bags and woven arts from regions including Baluchistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tibet and Persia. He first travelled to Asia at nineteen and went on to live there for close to twenty years, an experience that shaped his lifelong interest in the history, design and cultural significance of traditional textiles. A contributing editor at HALI since 1991, Cole has written extensively on Baluch, Turkmen and Tibetan weaving, combining detailed visual analysis with first-hand knowledge of the regions and traditions behind these remarkable works.
