Description
From the Land of the Sun: The Richard Stewart Collection of Baluch Rugs, Bags & Trappings presents a remarkable collection of Baluch textiles assembled by collector Richard Stewart. The book explores the history, craftsmanship and cultural significance of these distinctive woven works. Drawing on Thomas Cole’s extensive research, this richly illustrated study examines the development of Baluch weaving, with close attention to the designs, techniques and regional influences that shaped textiles from Khorassan, Seistan, Afghanistan and Baluchistan. It includes rare and previously unpublished photographs from the region, including several taken by Josephine Powell in the 1950s and 1960s, offering fresh insight into the artistry, heritage and cultural context of nomadic and village weaving.
