Werner Brändl (1948-2026)

One of the last antique carpet dealers in Germany, Werner Brändl, has sadly died aged 77, due to a fall from a ladder in his beloved gallery.

Over forty years, his Kelim Gallerie in the historic city of Würzburg saw more than a hundred exhibitions of textile arts. His great love was kilim, which were sourced mostly from countless trips to Anatolia.

Over the last two decades he successfully staged seventeen symposiums that were attended by collectors from all parts of Germany. He worked tirelessly on the promotion of antique kilim.

Speaking about kilims in his HALI 215 Profile, he once said he ‘could be flying away on one towards a better future’. Have a good trip Werner, you will be missed.
