There is plenty happening in the rug and textile world at the moment, with exhibitions, auctions and trade fairs taking place around the globe.
In London, Asian Art in London began yesterday and continues until 10 November. Several major Islamic and Indian art auctions are also coming up, including Bonhams’ ‘Islamic and Indian Art’ sale on 11 November, Christie’s ‘Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds including Rugs and Carpets’ on 12 November, and Roseberys’ ‘Antiquities, Islamic and Indian Art’ auction on 13 November. Meanwhile, on 7 November, the exhibition ‘Constantinople to Istanbul: One City, Two Empires’ opens at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

On HALI.com this week, we covered LACMA’s exhibition ‘Textile Alchemy: The Art of Reiko Sudō & NUNO’, which runs until 7 March 2027, with HALI editor Ben Evans offering an overview of the show. We also revisited an article from our recent issue, HALI 229, in which Rachel Meek explores the surprising attribution of a bird asmalyk in The Textile Museum’s book Textile Treasures. Following his visit to Frieze Masters this month, Ben Evans also recalls a Mughal shrub carpet from the Jaipur royal collection, displayed on Moshe Tabibnia’s stand, which caught his eye for its original rectangular format, distinguished provenance and enduring red colour.
