Olympia, 'Textiles & Carpets from the Collections of Pip Rau and Professor Paul Benjamin'

This week on hali.com, we remember Werner Brändl, HALI’s longest-serving advertiser and one of Germany’s last antique carpet dealers.

We also share a new feature from HALI 229, exploring how Kashmiri shawls transformed global fashion. Ahead of Austria Auction Company’s Masterpieces V sale, we previewed some of the standout lots, including a silk Yarkand saf, an iconic Tekke bird asmalyk and an unusual South Caucasian carpet.

Our Editor’s Choice this week is a Tibetan tiger rug from the Rudi Molacek Collection, in which a pelt dissolves into near-abstraction, while a meditation seat embodies fearlessness and spiritual protection.

Today, members of the HALI team attended Frieze Masters, where exhibitors include Jacqueline Simcox, Afridi, Gallery Moshe Tabibnia and more.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be following the auctions taking place throughout this busy season. Textiles & Carpets from the Collections of Pip Rau and Professor Paul Benjamin is currently running at Olympia Auctions until 25 October. From 21–23 October, Sotheby’s will present its highly anticipated Magnum Opus sale, previewed in our latest issue, HALI 229.

Discover all this and more on hali.com.
