First Faig Ahmed exhibition in Baku

For the first time, carpets by the contemporary Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed were exhibited in his home country.

A major exhibition dedicated to Ahmed’s work — a compelling fusion of traditional carpet weaving and contemporary digital techniques — was shown at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum in Baku. ‘Faig Ahmed: Epoch 2011–2024′ charted the artist’s creative evolution, from subtle textile distortions to fully immersive installations.

The exhibition highlighted the striking progression in Ahmed’s practice. What began as delicate interventions in traditional rug patterns has transformed into bold, sculptural reimaginings — carpets that seem to spill and expand beyond their frames, across floors and walls.

Over the past decade, Ahmed has become one of Azerbaijan’s most internationally recognised contemporary artists. His works have been shown at institutions including The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum, the Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Gallery of Victoria. Through his woven creations, Ahmed connects the rich traditions of Azerbaijani craftsmanship with a global artistic language — bridging past and present, local and universal.
