Arthur Millner's online auction achieves high prices

Arthur Millner, of 25 Blythe Road, London concluded his second online auction on 7 November 2013, with some strong results, particularly among the Himalayan bronzes and paintings, as well as Indian miniatures.

Millner's Islamic, Indian, Himalayan and South East Asian Works of Art auction took place during Asian Art in London, with the exhibition receiving over 100 visitors, and website hits reaching over 100,000 from around the globe.

Among the highlights of the sale was a drawing of a Sikh warrior, dating from the 18th century, estimated very conservatively at £300-500, which sold for £12,000, while a 16th century Tibetan bronze figure of a lama, sold for £11,400. Sixty-seven pages from a dispersed Jain Kalpasutra also fetched £11,400, and a circa 1830 portrait of the 18th century King of Tanjore, Serfoji II of Tamil Nadu, sold for £6,000.

The auction sold over 70% by value. The total sold was £184,879 (including premium at 20%). Although tcarpets played a very small part in the sale, several still sold well above estimate, including lot 317, an Anatolian Kayseri silk prayer rug, sold at £800 (est. £120-150).

Millner commented: ‘I am delighted with the results of this our second auction of Islamic, Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian art. There was a lot of interest from a range of buyers all round the world, with Himalayan bronze and paintings, and Indian miniatures particularly strong.’
