Sotheby’s London sale on 6 November is led by a group of twenty-three carpets from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection in Madrid. The consignment includes a handful of classical Ushak, Esfahan and Caucasian rugs and fragments, as well as some particularly good Chinese and East Turkestan rugs.
At Christie’s in London on 25 October, the all-encompassing ‘Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds’ sale includes more than eighty other rugs and carpets, from most time periods and weaving cultures.
Christie’s forthcoming sale Arts of the Islamic and Indian Worlds features a selection of 70 carpets from the past five centuries, highlighting the various weaving centres within the Islamic world, from Spain to China.
The Spring Islamic Week sale of ‘Rugs and Carpets including Distinguished Collections’ at Sotheby’s in New Bond Street has been brought forward by one day to avoid a clash with Islamic and Orientalist art sales. In late September 2017, the great and good of the Islamic art world gathered in Toronto for a programme of events to celebrate the opening of the exhibition ‘Arts of the East’ at the Aga Khan Museum, featuring loans from the Bruschettini Collection.
A major exhibition, ‘Sérénissime Trame: Carpets from the Zaleski Collection and Renaissance Paintings’, opens on Thursday 23 March 2017 at the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro in Venice.
