Curated for the MFAH by Art of the Islamic Worlds curator Aimée Froom, ‘Colors of the Oasis’ is organised by the George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum in Washington DC. Houston is the third iteration of this acclaimed exhibition of 19th-century Uzbek luxury silk garments from the Emirate of Buhkara and the Khanate of Kokand. It was first seen in 2010 at the Textile Museum, to which Murad Megalli gifted the collection, and later at the Seattle Art Museum in 2012. The Houston presentation includes several textiles not previously shown.
