Tribal textiles meet modern design in Madrid

Jose Luis Herrero, owner of Spanish textile gallery, Estudio H is holding an exhibition of ’13 Textiles for The Contemporary Home’ at Galeria espacioBRUT, Madrid, 18 October – 12 November 2014.

Herrero’s great passion for tribal textile art has driven him to present objects in decontextualised, contemporary settings that highlight and accentuate their inherent beauty. With the belief that textiles are the yet undiscovered paintings of the 21st century, he has launched this exhibition of 20th century textiles in the thoroughly modern espacioBRUT design studio and shop space. The venue has a continually changing programme of exhibitions to compliment the furniture that is sold, and the interior design activity that happens there. The resident designers describe this as ‘a tribute to the beauty and the work of artists who have gone before us’.

The abstract painter, Gerardo Rueda (1926 – 1996) shared his secret for a successful interior with Herrero- “…there are three essential things that one needs: firstly a beautiful and functional piece of furniture; secondly, great lighting, versatile and sensory; and thirdly a great picture or any other work of art that will attract people and stir their heart”. At ’13 Textiles for The Contemporary Home’, 13 opportunities to acquire just such a work of art are proffered.
