It was on 1 July 2010 that US President Barak Obama signed the 'Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Ac' (H.R. 2194), legislation that expands US sanctions against Iran in response to the country’s nuclear activity. The new law will ban many Iranian imports to the United States, including rugs, and takes effect on 29 September 2010.

In today’s sale of carpets at Christie’s in London (15 April 2010), a sublime 17th century Kerman vase technique carpet sold for an astonishing £6.2 million ($9.5 million), more than double the mark set not quite two years ago at CNY for the Doris Duke ‘Polonaise’ carpet. It is likely, though not yet confirmed, that the carpet will be going to the Gulf area.
