'A journey from the Balkans to northeasern Perisa' is how Werner Brändl of Galerie Kelim in Würzburg, Germany, describes his current exhibition 'Symbol and Colour'.

The exhibition, which began on 4 November 2004, contains a broad range of kilims from 17th to 19th centuries, including a rare Baluch kilim from the 19th century, woven by the Timuri in the region of Khorasan.

A 'Sufi' rug from central Anatolia, knotted by Kurdish women in the Cihan Beyli region in the ealry 19th century, illustrates the powerful symbols used by the Sufi people. A small double bag from the southeastern Caucasus mountains, woven by Shasavan in the 19th century is an exceptionally fine piece in Sumakh technique, which has been preserved in perfect condition with bright colours.

Further textiles from the 19th and 20th centuries, bags and horse-blankets are also on display. The exhibition continues until 5 January 2005.
