14 October 2005 At HALI we are used to hearing contemporary carpet designers telling us that their new designs are the best on the market. Well, we want you to prove it!
Domotex is the largest and most in?uential modern carpet and flooring fair in Europe. The annual event in Hannover re?ects the enormous growth in the industry, with an increasingly design savvy and demanding public pushing modern producers to strive for higher standards and innovations in weaving techniques, materials and design.
To recognise and promote excellence amongst hand-made carpet producers at Domotex 2006 (14 – 17 January), HALI and its newly launched sister publication Modern Carpets + Textiles have joined forces with the fair's organisers to establish the Carpet Design Awards. The distinguished panel of judges, all well respected within the trade, will include 'Designer of the Year 2003' Ulf Moritz, Matthew Bourne of Christopher Farr Rugs, UK, Ron Stewart, ex-buyer for Liberty's London, Ferdi Besim, owner of Austrian carpet retailer Adil Besim, textile artist and carpet scholar Belkis Balpinar, and Alexandra Van Der Sande of Italian contemporary furniture design company, Cassina.
The awards will be divided into traditional or contemporary design categories, both as collections or individual lines within a specific price range. There will also be awards for innovation and a prize for best design voted for by Domotex visitors.
Categories are as follows:
1. Best modern design in the price range <100€/m2
2. Best modern design in the price range 100€/m2 to 250€/m2
3. Best modern design in the price range >250€/m2
4. Best traditional design in the price range <100€/m2
5. Best traditional design in the price range 100€/m2 to 250€/m2
6. Best traditional design in the price range >250€/m2
7. Best modern collection
8. Best traditional collection
9. Best modern innovation
10. Best traditional innovation
11. Best design voted for by Domotex visitors
Winners of each category will win a handsome trophy and €1,000. Domotex exhibitors can enter as many products in as many categories as appropriate but there is a fee of €125 for each entry. The deadline for entries is 11 November 2005, and the awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 15 January 2006 at 4.30pm in Hall 15.
