Finally somebody has seized upon the need for a modern carpet fair in New York and, on the back of a buoyant market, has taken the plunge. Carpet entrepreneur extraordinaire Dennis R. Dodds has announced the launch of the 'New York International Carpet Show' (NYICS) in the Exhibition Center at Pier 94 in Manhattan from 27-30 September 2005. Some of the biggest names in the business have already signed up, including Stephanie Odegard, Woven Legends, Zollanvari, Lapchi and Asmara.

New Jersey's David Samad  (President of Samad Rugs), a pace setter in invigorating the market through his formation, last year, of the Metro Rug Alliance, thereby creating a market week in which wholesale modern carpet dealers in New York joined forces and opened up their galleries to draw buyers to the Big Apple (see HALI 137, p.153). For 2005, the Metro Alliance have scheduled their event to coincide with NYICS, working with Dodds to attract the maximum number of buyers for the benefit of all involved.

Other fairs at Pier 94 have included Architectural Digest's 'Home Design Show', as well as fashion shows and the International Gift Show. For further information please contact dennisdodds@juno.com
