Christchurch Art Gallery, in New Zealand, pays tribute to William Morris (1834-1896) in the exhibition ‘Morris & Co: The World of William Morris’, which runs until 29 June 2008. Drawn from the extensive collections at the Art Gallery of South Australia, this is the first major exhibition of Morris & Co. designs, textiles and furnishings ever to be seen in New Zealand.

Jenny Balfour-Paul reports from Washington DC: “Next time you pull on your jeans, recall their humble origins and their adventuresome history”, proclaims the first label in ‘Blue’, the Textile Museum’s excellent current exhibition of indigo-blue textiles (until 18 September 2008). The introductory exhibits are, of course, ‘Levis’. Despite the age gap, the latest trendy eco jeans, with recycled buttons and rivets, are just like the 1890s’ pair; and both were dyed with natural indigo.

Nunzio Crisa reports: The Milan ‘Salone del Mobile’ is quite a serious thing. With an exhibition area of 150,000 square metres where 1,300 companies offer furniture and furnishing items, it attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year, most of which are professionals.
